Editor’s Introduction
Gil-Rey Madrid is Principal of Fort Stockton High School in Texas. Previously he took their middle school from not making AYP to the highest student performance in math among middle and junior high schools in his region. His insistence that teachers continue to teach to grade level while struggling students attend mandatory math tutorials led to these amazing results. He recently shared his strategies with fellow educators at CAMT (Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching). We are pleased to share a few of those lessons here.
